# Shopify Editions Spring '26: Every Update, and What Matters

Shopify Editions Spring '26 shipped on June 17, 2026 under the name "Everywhere". Shopify markets it as 150+ updates. We counted the official Editions page: there are 219 entries, three of which are not features at all (a limited-run cap, a customer video, and a demo gallery).

Within days, the ecommerce agency world had published a wave of "the 5 updates that matter" posts. Almost nobody published the list. So this is the list, all 219 items grouped by the ten areas Shopify uses, plus our read on the eleven that change how a DTC brand acquires, converts, and retains customers.

If you only want the inventory, skip to "The complete list" below.

## First: there is no "Shopify Summer Editions 2026"

If you searched for "Shopify Summer Editions 2026", you are in the right place and the internet misled you.

Shopify ships Editions on its own schedule, described on its [Editions archive](https://www.shopify.com/editions) as "everything new across Shopify, every six months". The June 2026 release is officially **Spring '26**, codenamed **Everywhere**, published at [shopify.com/editions/spring2026](https://www.shopify.com/editions/spring2026). It follows Winter '26 ("Renaissance"). There is no Summer '26 edition, and there was no separate summer drop.

The confusion is understandable. It landed in mid-June, historically the summer slot, and several large ecommerce creators and agencies labelled it Summer Editions in their coverage. It is the same release. If someone sends you a "Summer Editions 2026" breakdown, they are describing Spring '26.

## What Shopify actually shipped: Catalog and the Universal Commerce Protocol

Strip the marketing and Spring '26 does one structural thing: **it moves your storefront off your domain, by default, whether you asked for it or not.**

Two pieces of infrastructure carry the whole release:

**Shopify Catalog** is a global structured product dataset that AI channels can search. If you sell on Shopify and your products meet the [eligibility requirements](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/promoting-marketing/seo/shopify-catalog/requirements), you are in it by default. Catalog syndicates your product data to ChatGPT, Copilot, Google's AI Mode, Gemini, and the Shop app with no feed, no app, and no work on your side. Shopify's own number: AI searches powered by Catalog convert at 2x the rate of searches using scraped data.

**The Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP)**, co-developed with Google, is the open standard for how agents talk to merchants across discovery, cart, and checkout. Shopify merchants are UCP-enabled by default, so any surface built on it inherits your actual checkout rules, discounts, and customizations.

Everything else in the release is downstream of those two. Sidekick got deeper so you can operate the new surface. Campaign Autopilot got built so you can buy media against it. The Shop app got rebuilt so Shopify owns the buyer profile that follows shoppers across it.

The early numbers are small but not zero. Shopify cites red light therapy brand Omnilux at 3.2% of total revenue from AI channels in March, and bedding brand Cozy Earth reporting AI channel revenue up 20x year over year. Twenty times a very small number is still a small number. Treat this as a channel to instrument now and budget for later, not a channel to reforecast around.

## The 11 updates that change how you grow

Most of Shopify Editions Spring '26 is housekeeping. These eleven are not.

We run paid, creative, and CRO for consumer brands, so this is filtered through that lens. If you manage a Shopify store and read nothing else, read this section.

### Your product data became a distribution channel

**1. Agentic Storefronts in the admin.** There is now a single dashboard for your AI channels. Orders, sales, and conversions from ChatGPT, Copilot, Google AI Mode, Gemini, and Shop sit in one view, and you can toggle discovery and direct checkout per channel.

It also shows the top AI queries in your category alongside which ones you rank for. That is a keyword gap report for a surface most brands have never measured.

**2. Product data structured for agents (Shopify Catalog).** Your titles, attributes, and variants are now the equivalent of your meta tags for AI shopping. A product with a vague title and three missing attributes will underperform a competitor with clean data. You will not see it in Google Search Console, because it did not happen in Google Search.

If you have been treating [AI in ecommerce marketing](https://naniza.io/blog/ai-in-ecommerce-marketing-practical-guide-2026) as a content problem, this is the operational version of it.

**3. Checkout on more surfaces.** Shoppers can buy inside Copilot and pay with Shop Pay without leaving the chat, with Meta ads flagged as coming. A purchase that never touches your site also never touches your analytics, your consent banner, or your on-site personalization. Plan for the attribution gap before it shows up in a monthly report.

### Paid media gets three new surfaces and one new invoice

**4. Campaign Autopilot.** AI-run campaigns across Facebook, Instagram, Shop, and email from inside the Shopify admin, with guardrails you set (monthly budget, target ROAS, regions, permissions). Microsoft Advertising, ChatGPT Ads, and Snapchat are announced as coming. It is in early access.

Our read: useful for brands with no media buyer, risky for brands with one. It optimizes on Shopify's commerce intelligence, which is genuinely better data than the pixel, but it is another auction participant bidding on your own audiences with a budget your team did not set. If you run it alongside an existing Meta account, cap it small and watch for overlap before you compare ROAS.

**5. Shop Campaigns on ChatGPT, Pinterest, and the open web.** Shop Campaigns now runs across Shop, other merchants' stores, Meta, Google, X, Bing, Snap, and now ChatGPT, Pinterest, and programmatic inventory via Microsoft Monetize. You pay per conversion at a price you set, which makes it structurally different from every other line in your media plan. Billing is now standardized onto your Shopify invoice with centralized reporting.

**6. Marketing data in analytics.** Spend, ROAS, impressions, and sessions now sit next to sales inside Shopify analytics, and discount links can be attributed to their campaign. This will not replace your reporting stack. It does give you a second, platform-side number to sanity-check the one your ad accounts report.

Two sources that disagree is information. One source you cannot audit is not.

**7. Cashback on ad spend from Shopify Balance.** Pay Meta and Google from a Shopify Balance account by ACH or wire and earn cashback. US only. It is a treasury decision, not a marketing one, and for brands spending six figures a month it is real money for one afternoon of setup.

### CRO finally gets native testing

**8. A/B tests on the online store and checkout (Rollouts).** You can now publish a theme, checkout configuration, or customer accounts setup at a scheduled time, or split-test it, natively. This is the single most underrated item in the release. Native theme A/B testing removes the most common excuse for shipping untested redesigns, and scheduled publishing means you stop pushing a new theme live at 11pm and hoping.

If you have been running [self-optimizing landing pages](https://naniza.io/blog/self-optimizing-landing-pages) or third-party split-test apps, this changes your stack. Test the platform version against your current tool on one real test before you migrate: native does not automatically mean better instrumented.

**9. AI-powered store analysis on any theme (SimGym).** Shopify simulates shoppers against your theme and returns suggestions. Treat the output as hypothesis generation, not evidence. A simulated shopper cannot tell you why your real [conversion rate](https://naniza.io/blog/conversion-rate-ecommerce) dropped last Tuesday, and simulated feedback that gets shipped without a test is just a redesign with extra steps.

**10. Redesigned checkout and managed payment methods.** The checkout got tighter (scannable delivery options, elevated pay button, less mobile scrolling) and Shopify Payments now dynamically reorders payment methods per checkout to show the options most likely to convert. Both are automatic. Both will move your conversion rate without an entry in your changelog, which matters if you are benchmarking.

We have written before about how easily [conversion rate benchmarks break](https://naniza.io/blog/bot-traffic-conversion-rate-benchmarks) when the measurement environment changes underneath you. This is another instance.

### Lifecycle moves into the admin

**11. WhatsApp as a native marketing channel, plus SMS automations and smart email delivery.** WhatsApp campaigns and consent management now live in Shopify Messaging, alongside SMS automations and a delivery engine that decides which messages to send and which to hold back. For European and LATAM brands, native WhatsApp is the headline: it is the highest-engagement channel most DTC brands still run through a third-party tool or not at all.

This does not make your [abandoned cart sequence](https://naniza.io/blog/cart-recovery-email-sequence) redundant, but it does add a channel that needs its own consent, cadence, and creative. Do not port your email calendar to WhatsApp.

Also worth knowing in this bucket: the **AI sales associate in Shopify Inbox** answers buyer questions on your storefront using your catalog, inventory, and policies, personalizes for shoppers signed in with Shop, and lets you set tone and human handoff rules. And **customer account sessions now last 365 days**, which quietly improves every signed-in personalization you run.

## What to do in the next 30 days

Most of Spring '26 requires nothing from you. These five things do.

**Week 1: audit your product data as if it were ad copy.** Open Agentic Storefronts in your admin. Look at the searches where your category shows up and you do not. Then fix the products Sidekick flags: missing specifications in titles, thin descriptions, incomplete attributes. It is the highest-return hour in this release, and it costs nothing.

**Week 1: decide your AI channel posture per channel.** You can toggle discovery and direct checkout independently for each AI channel. Direct checkout in chat means a sale you did not merchandise, upsell, or measure on-site. For most brands the answer is still yes, but make it a decision, not a default.

**Week 2: set a baseline before the automatic changes distort it.** The redesigned checkout and managed payment methods are already live and already moving conversion.

Freeze the four weeks before June 17 as your clean "before": checkout conversion rate, payment method mix, mobile completion rate, and [average order value](https://naniza.io/blog/aov-average-order-value). If you do not already track a fixed set of [ecommerce metrics](https://naniza.io/blog/ecommerce-metrics-kpi) month over month, this is the quarter to start.

**Week 3: run one real Rollouts A/B test.** Pick a single high-traffic template. Run it against your current split-testing tool if you have one. You are testing the tool as much as the variant.

**Week 4: pilot Campaign Autopilot with a capped budget, or skip it deliberately.** If you have no in-house buyer, run it small with tight guardrails and compare against your existing baseline over a full purchase cycle. If you do have a buyer, the honest answer is that it needs a controlled test before it touches shared audiences, not an early-access rollout mid-quarter.

## What we are skeptical about

Three things deserve a harder look than the launch coverage gave them.

**Campaign Autopilot's guardrails are not the same as control.** Target ROAS and monthly budget are inputs, not levers. You cannot see the bid strategy, the audience construction, or the creative rotation logic. That is fine for a brand with no alternative and a problem for a brand with a working account structure. Judge it on incremental revenue over a full purchase cycle, not on the ROAS it reports about itself.

**AI channel revenue is real but small.** A brand at 3.2% of revenue from AI channels is an outlier worth studying, not a forecast. The right posture is instrument now, optimize now because the work is cheap, and reforecast when the number is material for your own store rather than someone else's.

**Native tools cost you comparability.** Every feature that lives inside Shopify reports its own performance. Shop Campaigns bills on your Shopify invoice, Campaign Autopilot optimizes on Shopify's data, and marketing analytics now sits in the same admin. That is convenient and it makes it harder to run a fair comparison against channels you buy elsewhere. Keep one measurement source that no vendor owns. If you are already fighting to keep a clean read on [payback period at a low AOV](https://naniza.io/blog/cac-payback-period-low-aov), adding self-reported channels makes it harder, not easier.

Nik Sharma made a useful point in his [Limited Supply breakdown](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJV9RwH2U8A) of the release. AI-generated landing pages are now publishable on your main domain, so the constraint moves.

The sequence that works does not. Test 20 to 100 ad angles a month. Isolate the 10 to 15 with the best click-through and cost per add-to-cart. Build dedicated pages only for those, and scale budget into the three to seven that return.

Cheap generation does not fix a weak page, and the [patterns that make a landing page convert](https://naniza.io/blog/landing-page-examples) are the same ones they were before the pages became free.

The pages got cheap. The [creative testing discipline](https://naniza.io/blog/meta-ads-creative-testing) that decides which pages to build did not.

## Key takeaways

- **Spring '26 is the correct name for this Shopify Editions release.** Published June 17, 2026, codenamed "Everywhere". There is no Summer Editions 2026, despite widespread coverage using that label.

- **Catalog and UCP are on by default.** Your product data is now a distribution channel whether or not you manage it as one.

## FAQ

### When was Shopify Editions Spring '26 released?

June 17, 2026. Shopify published it as the Spring '26 Edition under the codename "Everywhere", at shopify.com/editions/spring2026. It followed Winter '26 ("Renaissance") and contains 219 entries on the official page, which Shopify markets as 150+ updates across ten areas including Agentic, Sidekick, Online, Retail, Marketing, Operations, Shop app, Payments, Finance, and Developer.

### Is there a Shopify Summer Editions 2026?

No. Shopify ships Editions twice a year, and the June 2026 release is officially named Spring '26. Several creators and agencies labelled their coverage "Summer Editions 2026" because it landed in mid-June, historically the summer slot. Any breakdown you find under that name is describing the same Spring '26 release.

### What is Shopify Catalog and do I need to enable it?

Shopify Catalog is a global structured product dataset that AI channels like ChatGPT, Copilot, Google AI Mode, and the Shop app can search. Merchants on Shopify with eligible products are included by default, with no app or feed required. You do not enable it, but you should manage it: clean titles, complete attributes, and accurate variants determine whether agents surface your products correctly.

### What is the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP)?

UCP is an open standard, co-developed by Shopify and Google, that gives AI agents one shared language for commerce from discovery through checkout. It covers catalog, cart, and checkout via MCP servers. Shopify merchants are UCP-enabled by default, so any agent experience built on it respects your real checkout rules, discounts, and customizations.

### Can I A/B test my Shopify theme natively now?

Yes. Rollouts lets you publish a theme, checkout configuration, or customer accounts setup at a scheduled time or as an A/B test, including for localized themes across markets. This is native to Shopify and does not require a third-party split-testing app, though you should validate the reporting against your existing tool before migrating your testing program.
